Shazam! (2019) 4K Video: The Basics

The Video Quality on Shazam! 4k UHD is very, very good, excellent detail and excellent color. I don't normally test Dolby Vision vs HDR10, but I thought I'd take a look and the Dolby Vision is much better. The DV version has much better blacks, and much better color, it looks much more like the movie theater version, HDR10 cannot compete with Dolby Vision in terms of accuracy, but for me this is typical of all DV vs HDR10 examples, I haven't seen anything that would suggest that HDR10 can compete with Dolby Vision. I'm assuming this is a 2KDI by the FBI logo at the start, because 4KDI and 2KDI's have different quality logo's at the start of movies typically, and to me it looks like a 2KDI. However with that said, the detail is mind-blowing-ly good for a 2K, it's very impressive. Because it's a DKDI I see partial halo-ing around objects which is something I see on all discs, and I'm not a fan of this personally. Anything up or down converted I can see and tell instantly because you have to stretch pixels over pixels. Also, my other pet peeve is the digital film grain is a little too heavy for the encoder on 4k. I personally saw some scenes with more noise than grain. A perfect disc? I wouldn't go that far, for trained eyes this movie is not perfect, however, overall the disc is very good.

VIDEO SCORE = 4.5 out of 5
HD MOVIE SOURCE - Excellent Dolby Vision

Shazam! (2019) 4K Audio: The Basics

I say firstly, nice bass! LOL. The bass is really punchy, was it holding back just a pinch? Possibly, I did feel that I wanted a hair more than what it was giving but wow it does sound nice. The dialogue is at perfect reference level, and the use of surround sound is very good. Dolby Atmos height effects are also excellent, objects literally are heard right in-front and around you like never before. Greta sounding disc, but I felt I wanted more, it was holding back in some way.

AUDIO SCORE = 4.5 out of 5
HD MOVIE SOURCE - Recommended
