THE MAN UPSTAIRS (1958)
Trying to escape his guilt after accidentally killing his fiancée's brother, Peter Watson (Attenborough) changes his name and takes a room in a dilapidated boarding house. There, his mental health rapidly deteriorates, and his fellow lodgers call the police after his erratic behaviour causes concern. But when Watson begins brandishing a gun, and a police sergeant is injured, matters quickly come to a head. Directed by Don Chaffey and starring Richard Attenborough, Bernard Lee, Donald Houston, Dorothy Alison, and Patricia Jessel.
NOWHERE TO GO (1958)
Paul Gregory is a thief and a conman. He has come to London from Canada in order to rob Harriet Jefferson of her rare coin collection. Having sold the coins, he puts the money in a safe deposit box and waits to be arrested, expecting to be out in five years. Sentenced instead to ten years, Gregory breaks out of prison with the help of Victor Sloane, planning to collect the money and then leave the country. A series of accidents and double-crosses sends Gregory spinning through London's criminal underworld, before he ends up on the run in the Welsh countryside with socialite Bridget Howard. Directed by Seth Holt and starring George Nader, Maggie Smith, Bernard Lee, Geoffrey Keen, and Bessie Love.
PAYROLL (1961)
A vicious gang of crooks plan to steal the wages of a local factory, but their carefully laid plans go wrong, when the factory employs an armoured van to carry the cash. The gang still go ahead with the robbery, but when the driver of the armoured van is killed in the raid, his wife plans revenge, and with the police closing in, the gang starts to turn on each other. Directed by Sidney Hayers and starring Michael Craig, Françoise Prévost, Billie Whitelaw, William Lucas, and Kenneth Griffith.
